Overview

At Houston Methodist, The Laboratory Administration Specialist is responsible for laboratory operations and facility management processes for the Central Administration and Central Laboratory Operations teams.

This position provides administrative support and guidance for HMAI (Houston Methodist Academic Institute) laboratory management, scientists, and staff as a member of the Central Laboratory Operations team. This position is also responsible for contributing to safety, quality, functional excellence and assisting in the implementation of initiatives to meet strategic and operational objectives.

Responsibilities

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides institute-level assistance to HMRI laboratory scientists and staff with HM processes. Including but not limited to purchasing processes, requesting installation of new laboratory equipment, and other laboratory-related processes.
  • Assist laboratory scientists and staff with developing SOPs for laboratory procedures and safety practices.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with management of central laboratory resources. May include temperature monitoring, backup equipment, asset management, monitoring safety equipment.
  • Works with Biomedical Engineering to manage Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI) wide laboratory equipment, confirming coverage and regular maintenance as required.
  • Manages and supports Central Laboratory projects as assigned. Examples: Roll out new temperature monitoring system, laboratory transfers/moves, serve as a HMH Central Lab Ops representative on institute or Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH) project teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Central Laboratory Operations.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Monitors and evaluates ongoing safety process and standards.
  • Serves as Ride Out or Recovery representative for Disaster Preparedness Response.
  • Assists HMAI Safety Officers as needed.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with Asset Management.
  • Understands and comply with Federal and State grant regulations.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works and supports process improvement for Central Laboratory Operations processes needed as institute continues growth trajectory.
  • Continue personal growth and career development plan.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
  • Bachelors degree in basic science or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 2 years experience in a research laboratory environment
  • Preferred experience as a lab lead for a lab team
