At Houston Methodist, the Project Specialist position provides analytical and specialized technical support to department management as well as basic financial tracking of department expenditures, processing of invoices as appropriate. This position is responsible for specific moderately complex, project-oriented assignments which include leading, coordinating and completing projects related to operational activities. The Project Specialist position must be resourceful in seeking solutions, be pro-active and have the ability to handle multiple projects at one time with extreme attention to detail. This position works under the guidance and direction of management and is accountable for high-level clerical support functions, project work and compliance activities including analysis, implementation, coordination, and reporting of project activities initiated by or assigned to department. Additionally, this position serves as a resource in facilitating the implementation and/or rollout of initiatives and tracks to ensure implementation is meeting scheduled milestones.
The performing and visual arts are central to the Center for Performing Arts Medicine’s (CPAM) work, fostering humanistic care and strengthening the connection between Houston’s medical and arts communities. The Project Specialist- Public Programming is responsible for curating, planning, and executing the Center for Performing Arts Medicine’s robust performing arts calendar across multiple hospital campuses. This calendar features performances by staff and volunteer musicians, environmental musicians who integrate music into the hospital experience, public performances by artists from the community that enrich the healing environment, and special events that reflects the diversity of cultural and spiritual traditions of the hospital and Houston community. In addition to live programming, the Project Specialist oversees the CPAM Television Channel, a 24/7 in-room broadcast that delivers arts experiences directly to patients. This role requires strong administrative skills, including budget management, artist communication, scheduling, and logistical coordination across departments. The role of the Project Specialist requires strong artistic and administrative skills, including budget management, effective communication with artists, scheduling, and tracking/assessment implementation and reporting in response to CPAM and hospital goals. The ideal candidate brings a proven background in music and programming, is passionate about the value of arts integration in a medical setting, enjoys working collaboratively with a wide range of artists and communities, and has experience managing or contributing to digital media.
