Overview

Basic and Translational Research Scientist - Assistant Professor, Orthopedic Stem Cell Research

 

The Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) welcomes applications for Assistant Professor in Department of Orthopedic Surgery with a background in stem cell-based regenerative medicine in orthopedic and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. We are a highly translational institute, with faculty that are making fundamental insights and translating these toward transformative therapies. HMRI offers unparalleled opportunities for bench-to-bedside translational research with the cGMP Cellular Therapeutics production facility, a new Human Performance Laboratory, and a large team of clinical research coordinators and 95 clinicians eager to participate in research within the Orthopedics department. Our Translational Orthopedic Research Program is funded by NIH, DoD, as well as industry contracts and substantial philanthropy.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D.

 

An ideal candidate for this position is an early-career independent researcher focused on advancing translational stem cell research, a strong publication record, and demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding.  The individual will receive institutional support in form of lab space, startup funds, departmental resources, and other operational support.

Individual in this position is expected to build their own extramural funding portfolio, specifically federal funding, and high impact publication portfolio.

The candidate is encouraged to have a strong record of collaborative and effective interactions with other faculty and staff. The candidate should be able to independently define and connect priorities of research and clinician faculty and demonstrate track record of moving research from bench to bedside.

Faculty will also have the opportunity to affiliate with the Cornell University Weill Cornell Medical College and/or Texas A&M University, and to work with students from these universities.
