Overview

Note: After the initial 60 day onboarding/training period, this position will work 2-3 days in the office per week. 

 

At Houston Methodist, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) & Health Equity Manager position is responsible for daily oversight and coordination of DEI activities, goals and outcomes for all of the Houston Methodist community hospitals, and systemwide health equity initiatives. This role supports the DEI office through data analysis, research, and collaboration systemwide to achieve DEI goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Effectively builds and leverages relationships with key stakeholders to develop and promote DEI initiatives, get buy-in to change efforts, provide ongoing consultation and promote HM strategies for enhancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and overall cultural competence.
  • Partners and meets with community hospital Organizational Development (OD) and HR leads quarterly.
  • Partners with entity leadership to lead DEI groups at the entities to help guide and assist in meeting entity and systemwide DEI goals.


SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Meets with Quality service team and other service team members responsible for measuring key patient indicators regarding equity of care and leads interventions for remedying any identified inequities with regard to staff delivery of care.
  • Creates and manages partnership in educational opportunities to enhance employee and community education on DEI related topics.


QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Partners with DEI training specialists to identify key measures to periodically assess training outcomes and continuously enhance and improve training to drive improved outcomes for the patient and employee experience at community hospital.
  • Continuously evaluates community hospital DEI programs to ensure alignment with system wide goals.


FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides quarterly reporting on DEI efforts and initiatives in the community.
  • Works with data team and other stakeholders to identify cost savings resulting from interventions leading to better patient outcomes.


GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews current year DEI strategy and makes suggestions for improvements to achieve desired outcomes. Identifies solutions to enable realization of DEI strategic outcomes. Partners with DEI team and other entity departments to identify opportunities to improve health equity outcomes.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends, best practices, and healthcare policy and shares information with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with community hospital leaders to ensure programs and practices are in alignment with overall systemwide goals.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in public health
  • Master's degree preferred


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion in a health care setting
  • Health equity experience preferred
