Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Groundskeeper position is responsible for providing a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests and staff by performing general ground maintenance work on the hospital campus and assigned properties. This position is responsible for inspecting interior as well as exterior landscape and identifiying problems that require corrective action in these areas. The Groundskeeper position may also provide fountain maintenance, litter clean-up, tree trimming, pressure washing and floral arranging, repotting or installation of new or replacement plants, as needed.

Responsibilities

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Interacts in a positive, professional manner with patients, family and staff. Communicates clearly and professionally to promote both work efforts and problem resolution.
  • Promptly responds to all assignments. Communicates and documents any facility or patient related issues to management, as appropriate.
  • Communicates with leadership when problems arise. Informs leadership when resources are needed.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs routine and seasonal ground maintenance which may include removal of plants or identifying replacement plants to maintain aesthetically pleasing environment.
  • Removes leaves, trash and other debris from the property and disposes of it properly, areas include parking garages, parking lots, stairwells of parking areas, elevators as well as public entry ways within the hospital. Monitors trash receptacles on property and assigned areas and empty as appropriate.
  • Identifies and maintains areas, per department guidelines, that may require power washing in coordination with maintenance or environmental services i.e. building entrances, pedestrian walkways and driveways.
  • Performs rounding in assigned areas or location to proactively identify cleaning opportunities, which may include window cleaning, exterior or interior glass doors, polishing elevator doors and high maintenance of entry areas including door mats and restocking umbrella stations.
  • Cleans and maintains fountains or other areas directly related to hospital or assigned properties.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protections against exposure to potential infectious body fluids when removing and disposing of debris on hospital property and designated areas.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety rules. Corrects minor safety hazards and observes standard infection control precautions and complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Utilizes signage as appropriate for patient, staff and guest safety.
  • Performs safety checks, maintenance checks and minor repairs on tools and equipment in assigned area.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Utilizes resources/equipment/supplies effectively and efficiently, demonstrating responsible financial stewardship.
  • Manages time effectively and prioritize department daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
  • High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.) preferred
