JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Supervisor Public Safety/Security position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day Public Safety/Security department operations and emergent activities of staff that provide safety and security for staff, patients and visitors of Houston Methodist. This position supervises daily shift activities including reviewing staffing levels to ensure compliance with facilities coverage. In addition, the Supervisor, Public Safety/Security position serves as the next higher level of reporting for department customers, regularly inspects on-site and off-site posts and facilities, investigates incidents and/or customer complaints and compiles data for accurate reporting. This position is the subject matter expert for normal department operations, acts as management in the absence of manager or director. Other duties for the Supervisor, Public Safety/Security position include, but are not limited to, performance improvement activities, directing and managing staff during normal and emergency operations, and actively participates as a member of department management to achieve operational goals.
The supervisor position responsibilities include overseeing the daily work activities of the work unit/department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency. This position trains and supervises staff while maintaining adequate staffing levels and budget compliance. The supervisor position contributes to staffing decisions such as hiring, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance. This position assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment. Other duties for the supervisor position include participating in performance improvement activities, as well as providing support for department management to achieve operational goals. This position may also perform staff duties and responsibilities as needed.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
o High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of accredited homeschool equivalency, enrollment or completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
o Associate’s degree preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
o Five years of experience in a security, military or law enforcement related field, three years’ which demonstrates progressive leadership responsibility
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
o Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Private Security Registration non-commissioned Security Officer license
o International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic, Advanced or Supervisor Level Certification within 90 days of hire
o Valid Texas Driver's License, or must obtain Texas Driver’s license within 90 days of hire
o Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certification within 60 days of hire
o American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, will be Houston Methodist's ninth hospital and will incorporate the most advanced technology available from the day the doors open. With 100 beds (at our opening; licensed for 276) and a prime location in the heart of the rapidly growing U.S. 290 corridor, the hospital will be equipped with technologically advanced innovations implemented during COVID, many of them designed to make patient communication with physicians, staff and families the very best and most effective in any health care facility. Even though the hospital won't be fully operational until 2025, we have several services and specialties opening in 2024.
