At Houston Methodist, the Patient Engagement Research Laboratory conducts quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research focusing on improving patient engagement and empowerment, tailoring health messages to reduce disparities to care, activating patient communities through digital storytelling, and assessing the efficacy of multilevel interventions, including those utilizing mHealth technologies. Housed within Surgery-Transplant, the Scientific Writer is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including the preparation of abstracts and manuscripts, submission of conference abstracts and journals for publication, as well as grant writing for federal and foundational grant agencies (e.g. NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, NKF, etc.). This position will facilitate the process of forwarding publication of research findings by multiple investigators, and the gathering of noteworthy achievements in science and helps translate and disseminate that information through feature articles, news releases, newsletters, social media, and other communications venues.
Master’s or Doctoral level preferred.

o Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
o MS or PhD in biological science field preferred
o Three years of experience in science writing/editing required
